What I Wish I Knew Earlier About Affirmations!

If you've done any sort of self-help, or personal development, then you're probably familiar with the concept of affirmations. 

 

These are positive statements and declarations to the Universe about your goals and desired outcomes. 

 

I've used affirmations in the past both personally and with clients to help them shift into a more positive mindset. 

 

Recently, I was searching online for new and different ways to access the subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind stores everything we think or believe to be true about ourselves, other people, and our circumstances. This portion of your mind creates its own reality that often doesn't correspond to actual reality. It's also highly programmable, and will believe anything you think or tell it.....even the bad stuff! 

 

Many personal development courses and books often use affirmations to re-train the subconscious mind for desirable outcomes. However, I stumbled upon a really interesting article that pointed out how each layer of our consciousness prefers to receive information. The conscious brain prefers statements such as " I am prosperous" or " I am worthy and valuable". Since the conscious brain is your logical brain, it feels comforted by these kinds of statements because it feels like your stating a fact. This brain loves facts! 

 

The subconscious brain is all about emotion and perception, but it's also a huge source of information. This portion of your mind works faster than the logical brain and is constantly gathering and storing data. In order to receive the full help and support of this brain, you need to ask questions. When you ask any question of the subconscious, it goes to work to find the answer for you. It loves to help you with creative solutions!

 

So, why not combine these two powerful forces to shift your mindset and energy even FASTER? By appealing to how each level of your consciousness receives information, you can really turn up the power of your manifestations!

 

Here's how it would work:

 

1) Start with your chosen statement to comfort and engage your logical brain into thinking your desire is a FACT. 

Ex. "I am prosperous". 

 

2) Next, ask a question so the subconscious brain can get to work creatively solving your problems.

This type of solution based thinking helps resolve inner-conflicts that often happen between the subconscious and conscious mind. 

Ex. "How can I make more money?"

 

3) Relax! 

The subconscious brain works better when you're in a relaxed state. You may get the answer to your question while meditating, exercising, walking, or in those moments between sleeping and waking. Pay attention to any information you receive and write it down if possible. This process may take time, but rest assured that once the question is asked, the subconscious brain doesn't stop working until it finds an answer!
